Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses Coming in January 2025 to Select Employers
In January 2025, certain employers will receive a Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses from the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) regarding incidents that occurred during the 2024 calendar year.
Described as a cooperative initiative between the United States Department of Labor and certain state agencies, the survey's purpose is to assist BLS in obtaining a complete and accurate representation of work-related injuries and illnesses in America's work places.
BLS is an agency of the United States Department of Labor. The survey instrument itself is an eight page form. BLS will advise survey participants to use records maintained regarding recorded occupational injuries and illnesses from January 1, 2024 through December 31, 2024 to complete the form.
The form published by the agency asks such quesrtions as "Tell us about the incident" by for example advising "whether the employee was treated in an emergency room and whether the employee was hospitalized overnight as an in-patient."
Another inquiry asks:"Describe how the injury or illness occurred. Describe the part of body affected by the injury and how it was affected and finally, describe the object or substance that directly harmed the employee."
BLS maintains a website providing further details about the survey and offers assistance to those who have questions regading the process. Please go here for further information:
