According to the FBI's research paper "Active Shooter Incidents in the United States in 2021," 32 of 61 active shooter incidents evaluated by the agency occurred in places of commerce.

This equates to more than half of these devastating episodes studied by the FBI, an agency of the U.S. Department of Justice. The FBI's full report may be obtained here: https://www.fbi.gov/file-repository/active-shooter-incidents-in-the-us-2021-052422.pdf/view
