Mass workplace shooting in MD leaves 3 workers dead, 1 in critical condition; Officer wounded
The killings continue.
A disgruntled worker opened fire on his colleagues at the Columbia Machine, Inc. manufacturing facility in Smithsburg, Maryland today. Three people were shot dead, a fourth was wounded and is in at a local hospital receiving treatment for his wounds.
Law enforcement have identified the murdered employees as Mark Alan Frey, 50; Charles Edward Minnick Jr., 31; and Joshua Robert Wallace, 30. The fourth shooting victim was Brandon Chase Michael, 42, and who is at this time said to be in critical condition.
The perpetrator fled the workplace, and got into a shoot out with a Maryland state trooper a short time later approximately five miles away. It is reported the shooter fired at the state trooper, striking him in the shoulder. Law enforcement fired back, striking the perpetrator. His condition is unknown.
Smithsburg is a small community of less than 3,000 residents. It is located approximately 75 miles northwest of Baltimore.
